rooms with a view : Wenzel Wolf Creek Family Dome Tent
As soon as the tent arrived I got to unpacking and setting it up. My first impression was that it is pretty heavy compared to my 2-person tent, but I expected as much. Rolling the tent out on the lawn made me realize just how big this tent is. It's Huge! (17' long).
Putting the tent together went quickly. The first time took about 20 minutes, subsequent setups took about 10 minutes. It does require a second person to be inside the tent while the other person attaches the poles. Chances are you'll have someone to help you if you're buying a tent this size. I'm pretty sure I will find a way to set this up myself though.
My main purposes for buying this tent are that my [[ASIN:B00339C3JG Coleman 4-in-1 Quickbed]] completely filled my old 2-person tent, I needed more room for gear inside the tent, and I wanted a separate mud room for my St. Bernard and Great Dane dogs. This tent brilliantly fills all those requirements.
We love that we can stand up straight (I'm about 5'9") in the center of the tent, the main room stays much cleaner with dogs and shoes left in the front room, and there are plenty of screened walls and ceilings. There are several little pockets and places to hang items inside.
My girlfriend thinks the rain fly should be a different color since the bright blue doesn't match or compliment the dark blue on the tent. I wish it had two extra windows on the two back walls. It would also be nice if the front door was a double-D instead of and inverted-T so we dont have to duck as much to get in. It rained while we were camping and we did noticed a few small puddles of water. I'm not sure where they came from but I dont think they were from condensation (the screened ceiling cuts down on that). I have some seam sealer and tent water-proofer on my wish list which may address that issue.
All-in-all it's a great tent if you have the space in which to set it up. I'd recommend it.
8/14/2011 update: One of the tent pole's elastic cord broke after setting up the tent several times. I was able to still use it since it didnt affect the segments from fitting together. Upon returning home I called the toll-free number, talked to a friendly representative, and about ten minutes later I was off the phone with a replacement tent pole in the mail. The replacement wasn't new (this is typical for in-warranty repairs/replacements) but it works fine and if I have another issue in the future it will probably get resolved just as quickly as this one did.
One more thing: I replaced the king size Coleman bed I mentioned above with the queen size version ([[ASIN:B0033990RO Coleman Queen Quickbed with Wrap 'N' Roll Storage]]). This smaller bed leaves tons of floor space in the tent for gear, so I recommend that as well if you're looking for a good air mattress.
